Events




The Taste of Chicago was born on July 4, 1980, when a group of restaurateurs approached Mayor Richard M. Daley with the idea of a food festival. The Taste of Chicago was inspired by “build it and they will come” attitude, a $150,000 budget, and confidence that the event would attract 75,000 people. It turned out to be a huge success, 250,000 attended and the food and soda sales grossed at $330,000. Due to the turn out of the “first” Taste of Chicago, in 1981 it was moved to Grant Park in order to accommodate even more people and restaurants....
